Commitment to reducing food waste

Did you know that September 29 is International Food Loss and Waste Awareness Day?

In the 2030 Agenda, it has been established to reduce food waste by 50%. More than a third of the food produced in the world for human consumption is wasted every year, wasting all the energy and water required for its production, producing greenhouse gases, damaging our environment and hindering the food supply.

At Trades, we have suppliers who are committed to the zero waste revolution, taking advantage of ingredients that until now have been discarded or reusing production surpluses to create new food products.

ESPIGOLADORS, A SECOND CHANCE

This year we have joined the social initiative Espigoladors, a project in which we collect fruits and vegetables that have been discarded (due to surplus production, aesthetic issues, a drop in sales...) but are still suitable for consumption. All this, involving people at risk of social exclusion, promoting the generation of opportunities.

With this collection, part of it is used to create new products for the end consumer, such as the Esimperfect vegetable pâtés and jams that we give to our collaborators.

Another part is aimed at vulnerable groups, with difficulties in accessing healthy food.

We think it is an exemplary initiative, as they have already managed to transform more than 60,000kg of food!
