SOLUTIONS AGAINST FOOD WASTE

Challenges of the food industry

In a world where sustainability is becoming increasingly important, solutions to food waste have become a priority. With millions of tons of food wasted every year, there is an urgent need to optimize consumption and management of food resources. New technologies are revolutionizing the way this problem is addressed, offering innovative tools to reduce waste.

we waste a third of the food we consume

Globally, we waste about one-third of the food that is produced in the world.

The 2030 Agenda has set as one of its key objectives to reduce food waste by half, given that more than a third of the food destined for human consumption ends up being wasted annually. This problem not only implies a significant loss of resources such as water and energy needed for production, but also contributes to the emission of greenhouse gases, aggravating climate change.

In addition, food waste affects global food security, jeopardizing access to food and generating an environmental impact that we urgently need to mitigate.

What can industry do against food waste?

Implement upcycled ingredients

Using ingredients that come from food by-products to create new foods. This not only reduces waste, but also adds value to ingredients that would normally be discarded.

Improving supply chain management

Optimize food transportation, storage and distribution to minimize losses, ensuring that products arrive in better condition and reduce premature expiration.

Develop advanced conservation technologies

Implement methods such as intelligent packaging or more efficient refrigeration technologies that extend the shelf life of products, thus reducing the amount of food that spoils before reaching the consumer.
